Educational Advocate Review

We hired Mrs Campitelli to aide in discussions with the IU for our 4 year old son with Autism, speech delay, and sensory processing disorders.  Prior meetings with the IU team had resulted in no changes despite multiple written requests and three meetings over the course of 9 months.  Mrs. Campitelli reviewed all our records, previous IEPs, noted our concerns, and goals we hope our son to achieve.  She also met with our son to better understand challenges he was facing and speak to his individual needs based on her expert experience.  She was able to decipher the gaps in our IEP, areas where the IU was not following state laws, and help us take appropriate steps to professionally address Ethan’s developmental needs from an educational standpoint.  During our IEP meeting she helped us mediate the discussion.  She expertly advocated for our son by explaining IU jargon, questioning IU staff on missing information, and guided the discussion on goals with the IU staff.  At the end of the meeting we were receiving more needed services, and revising the IEP due to its lack of meaningful (quantitative) goals.  We also were able to see what testing still needed to be completed for the future. We will continue to use Mrs. Campitelli in the future for review of all documents, IEP meetings, and decision making to support our son.  Her services are invaluable and give parents a peace of mind that they are doing the best for their child.
